
Legal Permanent Residents who have been continuously residing in the US for 5 years after obtaining Legal Permanent Resident Status may apply for citizenship. In the case the residency has been obtained through marriage to a US citizen, the period drops to 3 years if they are still married.
Applicants for citizenship must be physically present in the US for a least one half of the qualifying period and the periods of absence cannot last more than a continuous year. Additionally, absence from the US during the application period might endanger your application for naturalization.
